Top-of-the-list Gibbs/DeFranco album:
This CD is one of the best of the handful of albums by Buddy DeFranco and Terry Gibbs recorded in the 1980s-early 90s. Tune selection is exceptional, starting off with the rarely played HOLIDAY FOR STRINGS. Done medium-up, everyone has a ball on it. They then tackle SERENADE IN BLUE in an unusual way: typically it's done smoothly and dream-like, but here they play it with a great deal of staccato. Terry takes a fine solo, and drummer Gerry Gibbs (Terry's son) demonstrates superb brushwork. CARIOCA is taken...
