The Jewish Pregnancy Book: A Resource for the Soul, Body & Mind During Pregnancy, Birth & the First Three Months
Women are increasingly coming to see pregnancy and birth as a spiritually meaningful period in their lives. But Jewish women looking to supplement conventional pregnancy resources with Jewish spiritual material have found little available, primarily because the Talmudic Rabbis who formulated the basis of Jewish prayer and practice were men.
The Jewish Pregnancy Book breaks the silence by creating and renewing Jewish prayers and rituals for this miraculous and challenging time in a woman's life. By reviving prayers our foremothers wrote and passed from one generation to the next, to investigating medical and ethical issues from a Jewish perspective, to exercising the body with pre-natal aleph-bet yoga, this groundbreaking handbook addresses the whole being: the mind, body, and soul of the pregnant Jewish woman.
For the mind--Basic medical information on topics such as fetal development, fertility treatments, morning sickness, and the risks of delivery, as well as discussions from a liberal Jewish perspective on ethical issues such as selective reduction, home birth, and conditions for having an amniocentesis.
For the body--Pre-natal aleph-bet yoga, a unique blend of yoga and Hebrew letters designed to gently help your body carry your pregnancy and ready itself for delivery. Includes step-by-step instructions and photographs clearly demonstrating each pose.
For the soul--Ancient and modern prayers and kavvanot for each stage of pregnancy, including an everyday prayer for pregnancy from an eighteenth century Italian siddur, psalms that have been traditionally associated with pregnancy, and a contemporary prayer to provide comfort through morning sickness.

Very handy:
I am very glad I have this book. For some, the most important part will be to help find modern ways of celebrating their pregnancy within a Jewish context. For others, it's a way to link in with traditions that people hardly discuss or even know about anymore. A good book for an age in which we no longer have much folk wisdom passed down within families.
www.JewishPregnancy.org loves the Jewish Pregnancy Book:
I really love this book and have been recommending it to pregnant women I know! It is a beautiful book and a lot of fun to read- and a great companion for the pregnant Jewish woman in your life. It is the first book to compile all the traditional Jewish sources on pregnancy- and they are presented in a fascinating, fun-to-read way that makes them really pertinent to your experience of pregnancy. It also meant a lot to me that the book addresses a lot of important yet rarely-discussed issues that... more info
An Enriching Experience That Should Not Be Missed!:
Pregnancy is a special time, and this book helps to enrich the experience. Dr. Falk and Rabbi Judson have collaborated to create an extraordinary mix of insites into traditions that enhance the spirit, practical advice for difficult moral issues, and old fashioned common sense. I can't think of a more fitting gift from a husband for a wife, from a mother for a daughter, or from one friend to another. I recommend this book for anyone who wants to make a special time even more special.
