Rabbi Mordecai M. Kaplan, who died in 1983 at the age of 102, was one of the giants of twentieth-century Jewish thoght and its first authentic American ideologue. His concept of Judaism as an "evolving religious civilization" influenced virtually every aspect of organized Jewish life in the United States. With the founding of the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College in 1968, Kaplan's ideas gave birth to a fourth denomination in Judaism.

This edition brings together excerpts from all his major works including Judaism as a Civilization, The Greater Judaism in the Making, and The Future of the American Jew.
