The kids enjoyed it and so did I:
This book is cute, sweet, funny, and has gorgeous pictures. Some of the books I have to teach are so stupid I feel like I'm harming young minds, but Handa's Surprise is glorious. It offers great segues into lessons or discussions about fruits, animals and geography too (it takes place in Kenya.)
Handa's Surprise:
It is a wonderful book that surprises every young reader. The beautiful illustrations made my class of 2-year-olds instant storytellers. The story does not only enhance counting numbers for those beginning to count, it also promotes awareness of tropical fruits found in Kenya. Not forgetting the 7 skillfully illustrated animals each child will not only identify but appreciate.
