Looking for a good book on Jewish genealogy?
One path to better understanding of who we are as individuals is to know who
our ancestors were. It's not ancestor-worship.
It's not so we can say that we're
descended from nobility (not a very likely occurrence in Jewish Genealogy). It's
just helpful as we chart our Jewish paths today to see where people very much
like us charted theirs before us.
Yet there is still a special pleasure in Jewish Genealogy even if we don't
count Counts in our family trees. Consider Benjamin Disraeli's retort in
Parliament to an anti-Semitic remark: "Yes, I am a Jew, and when the
ancestors of the right honourable gentleman were brutal
savages in an unknown island, mine were priests in the temple of Solomon."
