Looking for a good Jewish calendar? As Abraham Joshua Heschel wrote, Judaism is focused on time, not space. Jews
have been around for quite some
time, a few thousand years now, and in a variety of places. Yes, we do
face Israel when we pray; and within Israel, we face Jerusalem; and within
Jerusalem, the Temple Mount. But the defining aspect of Jewish prayer is not
spatial. Indeed, the calendar determines what prayers are to be said on a given
day. Is it Shabbat or weekday? Rosh Chodesh (the new moon)? Has the time for
reciting Shma passed? Is it a festival? Is it a day on which we say
Tachanun or not? And so on. In fact, Judaism is so time-based that shul
gabbais (or rabbis) use a special calendar called a luach to keep
straight the answers to all of these questions.
What
better way to focus, Jewishly, on time than with a Jewish calendar? Have a look
below at our selection of Jewish calendars, including beautiful
calendars from Jewish museums, practical wall calendars, multi-year
calendars and Jewish children's calendars here, plus Jewish calendar software.

The author moves methodically from more simple... more info
